Three-time Super Group Champion São Paulo to Compete in the 2023 Dallas Cup presented by Coca-Cola

DALLAS, Texas (Tuesday, Jan. 10) – Dallas Cup, the oldest and most prestigious international youth soccer tournament in North America, has announced that Brazilian side São Paulo FC will compete in the Gordon Jago Super Group at the 2023 Dallas Cup presented by Coca-Cola.

Returning as one of the most successful Super Group competitors, São Paulo hopes to win their fourth Super Group “Boot & Ball” in their seventh trip to Dallas Cup. São Paulo last competed in the tournament in 2009, which was capped off in style after a 4-0 win over the Vancouver Whitecaps in the Super Group final. In 2007, the Brazilian side hoisted the coveted trophy following a hard-fought 1-0 win over Chelsea. Tricolor Paulista claimed their first Super Group trophy in 1995 after defeating Italy’s AC Milan in the final.

Historically, clubs from Brazil have enjoyed a great deal of success at Dallas Cup, winning a record 12 Super Group “Boot & Ball” trophies since the elite bracket was formed in 1990. São Paulo, who competes in Brazil’s top-flight Campeonato Brasileiro Série A, hopes to become the first Brazilian champion since 2015 when Coritiba FC hoisted the iconic trophy.

São Paulo has one of the most successful academies in Brazil, producing several world-class players including Cafu, Kaka, and Oscar, as well as Edmílson and Lucas Moura, who won the Super Group with São Paulo in 1995 and 2009, respectively. The under-19 team is currently competing in the Copa São Paulo de Futebol Júnior, the most important youth tournament in Brazil. São Paulo has a 2-0 group stage record in the high-profile tournament that will conclude later this month.

São Paulo is the sixth team announced for the 2023 Gordon Jago Super Group. England’s Arsenal FC, fellow Brazilian side Botafogo, the Liga MX duo of Tigres and CF Monterrey, and Canada’s Toronto FC were previously announced for the 19U Super Group. In total, 12 elite teams hailing from top pro clubs and national federations around the world will vie for the iconic Super Group “Boot & Ball” trophy.

The 2023 Dallas Cup presented by Coca-Cola will be played April 2 through April 9. The boys’ tournament component will once again be played concurrently with the Dallas Cup Girls’ Invitational presented by Mary Kay (Girls 15U-18/19U) which runs April 1 through April 7.
