DALLAS, Texas (Friday, Nov. 10) – Dallas Cup, the oldest and most prestigious international youth soccer tournament in North America, is proud to announce the return of Denmark’s FC Midtjylland to defend their Gordon Jago Super Group title at the 2024 Dallas Cup presented by Coca-Cola next March, coinciding with the celebration of the tournament's 45th anniversary.
After beginning their 2023 Dallas Cup journey with a tepid start against Mexico’s Tigres, FC Midtjylland regained their form in the subsequent two group-stage matches. With victories over local side Solar SC MLS NEXT and Costa Rica’s LD Alajuelense, they secured their spot in the Super Group semifinals. In the semis, The Wolves triumphed over La Liga powerhouse Real Madrid in a 3-2 victory, punching their ticket to the Super Group final. In a tightly contested final match, Midtjylland clinched a 1-0 win against three-time Super Group champions Sao Paulo FC, ultimately earning the title of the 2023 Gordon Jago Super Group champions.
With the win, FC Midtjylland achieved a historic milestone, becoming the first Danish team to hoist the esteemed Super Group “Boot & Ball” trophy. They followed in the footsteps of the 2013 U17 champions Aalborg BK as only the second Danish team to be crowned champions in the tournament's history.
Renowned for its reputation for finding and developing promising young talents, FC Midtjylland has a highly regarded youth academy, which is heavily driven by data and analytical assessments. Midtjylland currently sits atop the 2023/2024 standings in Denmark’s U19 Ligaen. Julius Voldby, who was part of the championship team this past spring, currently leads the Danish youth league in scoring.
FC Midtjylland is the first team announced for the 2024 Gordon Jago Super Group. In total, 12 elite teams hailing from top pro clubs and national federations around the world will vie for the Super Group “Boot & Ball” trophy.
The 2024 Dallas Cup presented by Coca-Cola (Boys U12-U19) will be played March 24 through March 31 as the tournament celebrates an important milestone with its 45th anniversary. The boys’ tournament will once again be played concurrently with the Dallas Cup Girls Invitational (Girls U15-U19) which runs March 23 through March 29.
