Dallas Cup Mourns the Loss of Former Executive Director, Gordon Jago MBE

ree

It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of our beloved friend and former Executive Director, Gordon Jago MBE.

Gordon’s impact on the Dallas Cup and the global game is immeasurable. During his decade as Executive Director (2002–2012), he helped transform the tournament into one of the world’s premier stages for elite youth soccer, welcoming international giants like Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Barcelona to North Texas. His legacy lives on through the Gordon Jago Super Group, renamed in his honor in 2012, which continues to showcase the very best in U19 competition each year.

Before his time with Dallas Cup, Gordon’s remarkable career spanned every corner of the game. He was a long-time player with Charlton Athletic, an iconic manager in England with QPR and Millwall, and a coaching pioneer in the United States, leading the Tampa Bay Rowdies, Dallas Sidekicks, and shaping the growth of soccer in the U.S.

More than his achievements, Gordon will be remembered as a kind, humble, and generous man whose passion for the game, and for people, touched countless lives.

He remained a cherished ambassador for the Dallas Cup through his final days. His legacy will forever be woven into the fabric of our tournament and our hearts.

Thank you, Gordon. You will be deeply missed.

It takes a truly dedicated and passionate individual to elevate a regional youth tournament to the “premier stage” that the Dallas Cup is today. Renaming the premier tournament the Gordon Jago Super Group is a perfect and lasting tribute to his decade of transformative work. Sprunki

Such heartbreaking news. Gordon’s leadership, kindness, and passion truly inspired so many of us, both on and off the pitch. I remember hearing him speak about teamwork and perseverance—values that echo far beyond the game, even in projects like Escape Road, where that same spirit of collaboration and determination shines through. His legacy continues to guide us all. Rest in peace, Mr. Jago.

The information you provide here is excellent; I did not have this knowledge before, thus it was quite difficult to work. Thank you very much. Please make friends with me on fireboy and watergirl. I'm pleased to meet everyone.

Although Gordon loved the game of soccer more than any man I’ve known, he will be mostly remembered for the way he loved people well. He had a true passion for the kids and that passion drove him to continually work to make The Dallas Cup the premier youth soccer tournament in the world. I will never forget the day he said yes to Judy Murphy and me when we extended him an offer to become the Executive Director of Dallas Cup. You will truly be missed Gordon.
