Gunners look to become first Premier League Super Group champion since 2016

DALLAS, Texas (Thursday, Nov. 10) – Dallas Cup, the oldest and most prestigious international youth soccer tournament in North America, has announced that Arsenal FC will represent the English Premier League at the 2023 Dallas Cup presented by Coca-Cola. Arsenal is the first team announced for the 19U Gordon Jago Super Group, which will once again be comprised of teams hailing from top pro clubs and national federations around the world.

The 2023 edition of the tournament will mark the fourth Dallas Cup appearance for Arsenal. They look to become just the sixth English side to hoist the iconic Super Group “Boot & Ball” trophy and the first since 2016 when Everton won the elite bracket.

The historic club from London last competed in 2019 where they compiled a 2-1 group stage record. Yunus Musah, who was just announced as part of the U.S. Men’s National Team World Cup roster, was a key member of this Arsenal side.

In 2018, current England national team and Arsenal first-team standout Bukayo Saka helped the Gunners advance to the Super Group championship but fell against Mexico’s Tigres, 1-0, in the final. Folarin Bolarin, who is having a breakout season while on loan to Ligue 1 side Reims was also part of the high-powered attack in 2018.

Arsenal’s first Dallas Cup appearance was in 2011 at Dallas Cup XXXII. Arsenal reached the Super Group semifinals, but bowed out to the eventual champion Eintracht Frankfurt.

One of the most successful and popular teams in world soccer, Arsenal have won the third-most top flight matches in English soccer history, resulting in 13 league titles and a record 14 FA Cup Championships. With the 2022/2023 Premier League season underway, Arsenal is once again sitting atop the table. At the academy level, Arsenal has proven to be equally successful, having won three U18 Premier League titles and seven FA Youth Cup championships.

The 2023 Dallas Cup presented by Coca-Cola will be played April 2 through April 9. The boys’ tournament component will once again be played concurrently with the Dallas Cup Girls’ Invitational presented by Mary Kay (Girls 15U-18/19U) which runs April 1 through April 7.
