Premier League side returns to Dallas Cup with eyes set on club’s second Gordon Jago Super Group title

DALLAS, Texas (Wednesday, Nov. 15) – Dallas Cup, the oldest and most prestigious international youth soccer tournament in North America, has announced that Premier League side Liverpool FC will compete in the Gordon Jago Super Group at the 2024 Dallas Cup presented by Coca-Cola.
The 2024 Dallas Cup, which marks the 45th anniversary of the tournament, will mark the third Dallas Cup appearance for Liverpool. In the club’s debut appearance in 2008, The Reds hoisted the Super Group “Boot and Ball” championship trophy after a 3-0 win over Mexico’s Tigres in the final. Liverpool’s next tournament appearance came in 2019 at Dallas Cup’s 40th Anniversary tournament. In the 2024 Dallas Cup presented by Coca-Cola, Liverpool returns for another milestone tournament, looking to become the first English side to win two Super Group Championships.

As the 2023/2024 Premier League season unfolds at the senior and Under 18 levels, Liverpool aims for a banner year. The U18 side currently stands second in the North Division of the U18 Premier League, pursuing table-toppers Manchester United. Meanwhile, Liverpool’s first team, boasting a stellar 9-3-1 record, closely trails Premier League leaders Manchester City by just a point. Liverpool’s academy is considered one of the most successful in world soccer, producing a myriad of top-flight players over the years, and several of their academy standouts have been included for international duty this month. Liverpool striker Keyrol Figueroa was the starting forward for the U-17 U.S. Men’s National Team in their opening U-17 FIFA World Cup win over Korea Republic on Sunday. Other U-18 academy standouts Trent Kone-Doherty and Kieran Morrison were named to the U-19 rosters for the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, respectively, as part of the 2024 UEFA European U-19 Championship qualifiers this week.
Liverpool FC is the second team announced for the 2024 Gordon Jago Super Group. They join defending champions FC Midtjylland out of Denmark in the tournament’s elite Under 19 bracket. In total, 12 elite teams hailing from top pro clubs and national federations around the world will vie for the Super Group “Boot & Ball” trophy. The 2024 Dallas Cup presented by Coca-Cola (Boys U12-U19) will be played March 24 through March 31 as the tournament celebrates an important milestone with its 45th anniversary. The boys’ tournament will once again be played concurrently with the Dallas Cup Girls Invitational (Girls U15-U19) which runs March 23 through March 29.
